1. Take a Dip in Keralamkundu Waterfalls
Thinking of taking a dip in the crystal clear cold water during the heat? Well, don’t look any further as Keralamkundu Waterfalls has got you covered. This waterfall is located in the Malappuram district close to the Silent Valley and is situated at an elevation of about 1500 feet. Since, this waterfall is located far away from the city life, it requires you a slightly rigorous short trek through the dense vegetation to get a chance to dip in the cool waters of the waterfall.
The waterfall offers visitors to take pictures of this incredible location apart from rejuvenating in its cooling waters, falling from an astonishing height of 150 feet which is then collected at the base of the waterfall. Another noticeable thing about the waterfall is that, once you arrive here you can smell aromatic herbs and shrubs that make up the dense vegetation surrounding of the waterfall.
2. Trek to Keerippara Vantage Point
For those who love sightseeing and going on a good long trek then Keerippara Vantage point is for you. This vantage point is led through the Mukkali – Keerippara road which is about 5 kilometers long. For those who love viewing the beautiful landscapes and lush green rolling hills, this place is the best as it is situated right above the Attappady Ghat.
The Trek starts usually in the afternoon from Mukkali, to be precise Mukkali- Anaikatty highway which is situated close to a KSRTC bus stop. The trek towards the scenic point can be muddy and its better to carry some salt with you as you are sure find tons of leeches around that would be trying to get on your legs to suck some blood.
Once you reach the Keerippara camp shed, you will notice that it has more amenities you would have thought, as it has a color TV with Airtel DTH satellite, and Solar Power Panel to provide electricity to the shed. It also as a kitchen, room for the staff on the ground floor and another room on the first floor with two cots for the guests. The food is served within the camp shed but make sure to carry snacks just in case and definitely don’t forget to take the pictures of the majestic Silent Valley.
3. Visit Pothuvappadam Waterfalls
Pothuvappadam Waterfalls is another waterfall located close to the Silent Valley national Park and Virgin Valley. The waterfall is about 50 feet in height which cascades down through a rock fromed slope which is almost similar to a slide. It is is one of the hidden gems of Silent Valley as many don’t known much about this waterfall yet. The name Pothuvappadam Waterfalls comes due to its close proximity to the Small town named Pothuvappadam within the Mannarkkad Taluk of Palakkad District.
It is best to visit this waterfall from October to March as the water is still gushing down but at a softer tone, which allows you to take a quick shower under the waterfall as the water slides down against the natural formed rock slide.
4. See the Majestic Virgin Valley
Virgin Valley is located close to Silent Valley National Park, is a must-visit for photograph enthusiasts. The Virgin Valley is also known as Kuruthichal. The natural green grassland and the rolling hills make it an amusing place to be while you here the sweet sound of the River Kunthi nearby to Virgin Valley.
5. Swim in River Kunthi
The River Kunthi is in close proximity to the Virgin Valley, and is a good place to for a relaxing swim in its celestial clear water. The river is named after Kunthi Devi( the mother of Pandavas) The Kunthi River is also known as Kuntipuzha river by the locals which stretches to about 15 kilometers from the north to south into the Bharathapuzha River. The river is usually shallow and it can be considered one of the less torrential rivers located within the Western ghats of Kerala.
It is best to visit this river during October to February as the currents remain moderate and the water doesn’t get too deep for a good swim. The spot is really unique with a lot of rock formations around the river which make a nice spot for taking pictures with you family and close ones. The pathways is accessible but it is quite rocky and you should always be cautious while walking over those rocky pathways.
6. Go for a Wildlife Safari
The Silent Valley is a beautiful landscape with lush vegetation that also includes abundant flora and fauna, some of the animals are Nilgiri Tahr, elephants, Malabar giant squirrel, lion-tailed macaque, and about nine types of bats including Peshwa’s bat and hairy-winged bat.
One can hire a jeep within the Park for about Rs 2000 for a 5 seater jeep which takes you on a 5 hour journey within the park showcasing the grandeur of the valley and the dense forest which holds immense beauty.

7. Camp in the Jungle
The Silent Valley is located deep within the heart of nature’s embrace that offers visitors with one of the most extraordinary experience. The Silent valley’s lush greenery , diverse flora and fauna, and hidden gems make it an unforgettable camping experience. The Camping allows a total of 15 to 20 participants who learn from the experts who teach everything about the jungle and how to survive there.
The camping lasts about 2 to 3 days within the national park where you get to surround yourself with towering trees and tranquil streams, as you finally get to disconnect yourself from the daily hustle and bustle of life. The early wake up calls from the birds and the gentle rustling of leaves create a soothing environment for an ultimate camping memory.
