History of Dehradun Zoo
The Dehradun Zoo was priorly known as Malsi Deer Park established in the 1976, which had been revamped and turned into Dehradun Zoo on June 22, 2017. The Dehradun Zoo is spread across 61.7 acres of land. The Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Rawat had inaugurated the zoo, aquarium and a stunning 3-D theater at the Dehradun Zoo. The Dehradun Zoo was made to attract large crowd of tourists which the Malsi Deer Park wasn’t able to do so during its years.
Further more by developing the Zoo, it helped the local authorities and Forest rangers to treat it is an educational center and rescue center as well for various animals that were injured within the area due to illegal poaching or other factors. The Zoo’s director was given to the IFS (Indian Forest Service) meanwhile adding a full-time permanent veterinary doctor to be at the Zoo at all times.
The Zoo had exhibited various animals of the jungle for the crowd of tourists to see which saw a surge in its visitors from 3.3 lakh in 2016-17 to 6 lakh visitors to the zoo in 2017-18 after the huge makeover the Malsi Deer Park had received. It is not just caught the eyes of the tourists but has become a huge attraction for the local residents as well. Recently the Dehradun Zoo planned to swap for four leopards for a rare white tiger from Nandankanan zoological Park in Odisha.

How to Reach the Zoo
By Auto: The Dehradun Zoo is located about 9 kilometers away from the center of city which is the clock tower or also known as Ghanta Ghar, take any auto from there which can charge about Rs 40 to Rs 60.
By Vikram No.1: This is probably the cheapest method and affordable method which can cost you about Rs 5 – Rs 10 which will drop you near a diversion of Swami Vivekananda Statue to the Dehradun Zoo, From there you can walk couple of meters to reach the Zoo.
